:The Supreme Court today declined to sack Governor Okezie Ikpeazu of Abia State from office over alleged tax infractions.
A five-man panel of Justices of the apex court affirmed the judgment of the Court of Appeal in Abuja which nullified Ikpeazu’s removal from office over the alleged fraud.

The court dismissed appeals that were lodged by two contenders for the governorship seat, Mr. Sampson Ogah and Sir Friday Nwosu, as lacking in merit.

The Governor of Abia State, Dr Okezie Ikpeazu, has since dedicated his victory over Uche Ogah at the Supreme Court to the people of Abia state, who he said stood by him all through the period of litigation.

In a statement by his Chief Press Secretary, Enyinnaya Appolos, Governor Ikpeazu stated that the victory is a re-affirmation of the mandate given to him by the people, and now twice confirmed by the Supreme Court.

:The World Health Organization (WHO) has declared an Ebola outbreak in the Democratic Republic of Congo. At least one person has died after contracting the virus in the country's north-east.
A statement by the Congolese Ministry of Health says the case was confirmed from tests on nine people who came down with a hemorrhagic fever in Bas-Uele province in the northeast of the country on or after April 22.

UN confirmed reports say 2 other sufferers have died from the disease.

More than 11,000 people died in the Ebola outbreak in West Africa in 2014-2015, mainly in Nigeria, Guinea, Sierra Leone and Liberia.

Ebola is a deadly hemorrhagic fever transmitted from animals including bats and monkeys. Without preventive measures, the virus can spread quickly between people and is fatal in up to 90 per cent of cases.

:No fewer than 25 people died after a wall collapsed on them during a party in Western India yesterday. The wedding guests were in the midst of the celebrations, having dinner and mingling on the outdoor lawns when a strong dust storm blew into the area on Wednesday night. This forced the guests outside to go back indoors.
Soon after they went inside, the wall collapsed on them, killing guests, 4 of whom were children. The Times of India reported that 25 people lost their lives in the collapse which happened in Bharatpur, a district in Rajasthan state, while other news outlets counted 22 and 26 deaths.

"As per the official figures, 23 people including 11 men, eight women and four children were killed. The number of injured stands at 28," Alok Vashishth, the inspector general of police, told the Times.

The newspaper reported that two more people died in the early hours of Thursday as a result of their injuries.

"The building collapsed due to dust storm and people were stuck in debris. Some locals intimated about the incident and a rescue team rushed to the spot," Mr Vashishth, the inspector general of police, told the Times.

A power outage reportedly hampered rescue work. However, the injured were eventually rescued and rushed to the hospital and treatment was administered. It has not been revealed if the bride and groom survived.

One Godwin Udoaka, a driver attached to the judiciary in Akwa Ibom is currently battling for his life at the University of Uyo Teaching Hospital, UUTH, after he was allegedly shot in the face by a soldier in Uyo.
According to PREMIUM TIMES, the shooting,occurred on Wednesday around 12.45 p.m. at Asutan Street, off Wellington Bassey Way, Uyo.

Witnesses told PREMIUM TIMES that they saw a white Toyota Hilux belonging to Wizchino Engineering Ltd, with the license plate number ABC 222 AY, pulled up suddenly behind a 14-seater bus belonging to the Akwa Ibom State Judiciary.

An armed soldier hurriedly step down from the Wizchino pick-up truck, rush to the judiciary bus and shoot the driver at a close range. Wizchino is a Chinese firm handling road construction contracts for the Akwa Ibom government.

"It happened within seconds. Before we could figure out what was going on, the soldier fled the scene with the truck,” one of the witnesses said.
"The soldier wasn’t the one who drove the truck; it was driven by another person"

The victim’s wife, Imaobong, told PREMIUM TIMES that her husband was contesting for the right of way with the Wizchino pick-up truck along Udo Umana Street, before the soldier and the driver of the truck trailed him from there to Asutan Street where he was shot.

The police spokesperson in the state, Ikechukwu Chukwu, confirmed the incident said they are making efforts to identify the officer.

FIFA is set to conduct an investigation into the transfer of Paul Pogba from Juventus to Manchester United after documents displaying the huge fee paid to agent Mino Raiola got exposed to the public. 
The documents claimed that Pogba earns a wage of £8.61m, equivalent to £165,588 a week, and will receive an annual loyalty bonus of more than £3.4m from next year. 

Both his contract and that of teammate Zlatan Ibrahimovic were negotiated by super agent Raiola, who would pocket an incredible £41m after bringing Pogba from Juventus to Old Trafford.​

The huge figures are divulged in a new book entitled Football Leaks: The Dirty Business of Football, and it is based on the research of Der Spiegel journalists Rafael Buschmann and Michael Wulzinger.
