The blind man identified as Lawan was spotted around Trade Fair Complex in Jos, Plateau State, selling phone accessories. Instead of taking to begging like most physically disabled individuals, Lawan decided to hawk chargers and cords in order to make a living. And that is what he has been doing for the past seven years with the help of his son. His son leads him and also identify the denomination of money collected from customers.

Lawan hopes to make enough money to rent a shop of his own in the nearest future.

The Kano State House of Assembly has passed into law, a bill seeking for life imprisonment for kidnappers and 15 years sentence for rapists in the state.

Hon. Yussuf Attah, the Majority Leader of the Assembly, who read the Kidnapping, Abduction and Forced Labour Amendment Bill 2016 before the Assembly today Monday, October 31, said the committee of the whole Assembly passed the bill after considering the amendment.

"The law has been in existence since 1963, but did not provide serious punishment for kidnappers, therefore, we have to amend it to suit the current situation," said Attah.

According to the lawmaker representing Fagge Constituency, any person found guilty of kidnapping would face life imprisonment without an option of fine while anyone found guilty of rape or forced labour will be sentenced to 15 years without an option of fine.

Speaking with newsmen after the passage of the bill, the Chairman of the House Committee on Information, Salisu Riruwe, hailed the amendment as a welcome development.

"With the passage of this anti-kidnapping law, we are hoping that the rampant cases of kidnapping and abduction in some areas of the state will come to an end," Mr. Riruwe said.

According to this report by DNMT boss, Michael Igbelabo shows that Davido actually performed with dancers at at the 3Thrones concert and Kaffy wasn't even at the concert.

TheNETng reports that:

Our correspondent immediately reached out to the lead choreographer of DNMT, Michael Igbelabo who spoke to us exclusively, saying Davido did not send his dancers off stage at any time.

In his words, ‘I really understand and appreciate Kaffy standing up for dancers but on this 3 Thrones show, she was not around or involved, the only way she came in is through Tiwa Savage, she’s been her official choreographer for a long time. But for Davido and Phyno’s set, DNMT were the official dancers and no one was sent off stage.’

He continued to say, ‘All Davido said during rehearsals was he won’t want the dancers to do all the songs because he’ll want to do some songs alone, but the organisers insisted and he was cool with it. We did all the songs together and no one complained or shouted backstage and that was why I even posted the video on Instagram the next day.

Davido may have offended Kaffy before that day I wouldn’t know, but am sure of this particular one and of course my dancers know I’ll always fight for them no matter what if he did send them off stage I’ll be the one calling him out.

Governor Akinwunmi Ambode of Lagos State, last Wednesday, caused a rumble within the state Executive Council when he relieved Commissioners for Tourism, Mr. Folorunsho Folarin-Coker, Finance, Dr. Mustapha Akinkunmi, and Transportation, Dr. Ekundayo Mobereola of their appointments in a minor cabinet reshuffle.

The reshuffle came exactly a year after Governor Ambode constituted his Executive Council, precisely on October 19, 2015. The sack, according to sources, could not be unconnected with poor performance, misdemeanour and inability to key into the goals, vision and mission of the present administration.

However, the Governor, in a statement by the Secretary to the State Government, SSG, Mr. Tunji Bello, directed the Special Adviser, Arts and Culture to take over as the Acting Commissioner for Ministry of Tourism and Culture, Special Adviser on Transportation will take over as Acting Commissioner for Transportation, while the Permanent Secretary in the Ministry of Finance takes over as the Acting Commissioner for Finance pending appointment of new Commissioners in the respective ministries.

Acting capacity
It will be recalled that on September 19, 2016, Ambode sacked quite a number of heads of parastatals and agencies. Notable among them was General Manager, Lagos State Emergency Management Agency, LASEMA, Mr. Michael Akindele who was replaced him immediately with Mr. Tiamiyu Muyiwa Adesina in an acting capacity.

Also, on March 14, 2016, following the collapse of a five storey building under construction at Lekki Gardens, Kusenla Road, Ikate Elegushi, in Eti-Osa Local Government, Ambode sacked the General Manager of the state Building Control Agency, LASBCA, Engr. Adeigbe Olushola.

The governor also sacked the Head of Inspection and Quality Control in the Agency, Adeoye Thomas Adeyemi, the Zonal District Officer in the Agency, Dosunmu Gbadebo, while the Zonal Head of Eti-Osa West of the Agency, Mrs. Akinde Adenike Sherifat was compulsorily retired from the civil service.

Ambode, in a statement through the state Head of Service, Mrs. Olabowale Ademola, said the affected officers were dismissed having been indicted of negligence, which according to the governor is an act of misconduct under the Public Service Rule 040401.

According to the governor, Rule 040401 of the Public Service act of misconduct states inter alia: “A willful act of omission or general misconduct to the scandal of the public or to the prejudice of discipline and proper administration of the State Government,” should be visited with dismissal from the Public Service in line with the Public Service Rule 040503.

All these sackings, it was gathered, received the blessings of former governor of the state and National Leader All Progressives Congress, APC, Asiwaju Bola Tinubu, who is known to be the main backer of the governor.

Reasons for the sack

Sequel to the eventual sack, facts emerged that the affected commissioners were recently reprimanded by Ambode on the need to raise their game on performance or face exit. According to the source, the affected commissioners were sacked based on issues ranging from lack of capacity to deliver, disloyalty and flagrant disobedience of the Governor’s directives on several occasions and lackadaisical attitude towards government’s goals

Some of the commissioners were also said to be indifferent to the governor’s directive on some major issues, believing they owe their allegiance to their godfather, Tinubu. The source said like any other Governor or President, Ambode relieved the cabinet members of their appointments based on political expediency, capacity to do the job, among others.

He recalled that many of the cabinet members were appointed a year ago based on merit and the need to put round peg in round hole, but in the last 15 months, it had become apparent that some of them cannot cope with the pace of the Governor, while some have demonstrated utter disloyalty to the office of the Governor.

They were also accused of flagrant disrespect to the office of the Governor with impunity, thereby undermining his authority coupled with unresolved disputes with some cabinet members.

The source said: “You see, one of them for instance, (names withheld) falls in this category.

“Having been in government for the past 16 years, his carriage was that of a man who believed that he cannot be touched. So, it was not a surprise to close observers that he was among those sacked by the Governor.”

Yet another one was dropped on account of being arrogant and unable to work as a team player and above all, he was allegedly approving money without the governor’s consent.

Oversight function
In addition, he was also accused of treating lawmakers in the state with disdain. Sometimes ago, members of the relevant Committee of the state House of Assembly were stranded and embarrassed during an oversight visit to the office of the commissioner, who was not on hand to receive the committee members without a word or excuse for the action after being duly notified of the visit.

He was also accused of often delegating officials to represent him at key events without cogent reasons for doing so.

Hence, the decision of the Governor to wield the big stick to serve as deterrent to others in order to fall in line and key to his vision of making Lagos great and transforming the state massively.

It was gathered that the other casualty- Akinkunmi, was said to be found wanting.

Being a finance expert himself, Governor Ambode, according to another reliable source, was uncomfortable with his style of operation to the extent that he had to be tongue-lashed at cabinet meetings by the Governor on issues that bordered on abysmal performance.

Commissioner reacts

Meantime, Folarin-Coker, in a swift reaction to the development, denied being removed for poor performance but said it was in the interest of moving Lagos forward.

His words: “Governor Akinwunmi Ambode is my leader and boss. He is a visionary leader and understands well what Lagos needs best. He is also a close personal friend. There was no clash between us whatsoever. Lagos needs to move at an accelerating pace and my time to depart just happened to be today.

“I remain totally loyal to him and the party. Change is always good thing and I am grateful to God to have been able to serve my state for 18 years.”

A text message sent to Moberola and Akinkunmi’s mobile phone lines were yet to be responded to at press time.

Efe Sodje (in bandana) in action for Super Eagles

For crimes related to fraudulent trading, a former Super Eagles World Cup star and three of his brothers, have been charged at the Westminster Magistrates Court in England.

According to an official statement posted on the United Kingdom’s National Crime Agency (NCA) website on Saturday, a former Super Eagles player, Efetobore Sodje, and three of his brothers, Bright, 50; Samuel, 37; and Stephen, 42; will appear at the Westminster Magistrates Court on November 16 to answer charges related to “fraudulent trading.”

Premium Times reported that the NCA stated that the accused who were earlier arrested on July 13 and subsequently released on bail, were charged last Friday in court after a three-year investigation into “alleged irregularities at the Sodje Sports Foundation”.

The Sodje Sports Foundation was registered on March 1, 2010, and was disbanded on January 22, 2015. The foundation has a motley of clearly unrelated aims, according to its record retrieved by the publication from website of the UK Charity Commission.

Some of its stated aims were to relieve poverty, advance good health in people through the provision of facilities in playing amateur sports and the promotion of lifelong learning, leadership skills and health issues such as HIV/AIDS, drug abuse, and nutrition. It also claimed to be focused on dealing with human rights violations such as “discrimination, equality and diversity issues (whether relating to race, age, disability, gender, sexual orientation or religion).”

Efetobore, the most popular of the Sodje brothers, played in the defence for the Super Eagles, the Nigerian senior national football team, at the 2000 African Cup of Nations, and the 2002 World Cup in South Korea and Japan. The bandana-wearing defender had 12 caps scoring one goal in a 2-1 friendly win over the Republic of Ireland.

He was born in England and his footballing career included stint at clubs such as Huddersfield Town, Southend United, Crewe Alexandra, Bury and Macclesfield Town.

His other football-playing brother, Sam, did not play for the Nigeria national team but also had a good footballing career. He played in the English Premiership for Watford and West Brom.

For the country to get out of recession, former President Olusegun Obasanjo has called for an increase in the volume of trade internally and externally and the establishment of a commodity exchange to ensure stability in the prices of agricultural produce.

Obasanjo made the suggestion in Abeokuta, Ogun State, on Monday during the opening of the 8th National Council on Industry, Trade and Investment currently holding in the state capital.

He advised the government to also put in place an aggressive coastal shipping system to boost trans-African trade with other countries on the continent from the current 12 per cent to about 22 per cent.

He explained that there was a need to spend less on goods that the nation could do away with, earn more from the manufacturing sector and borrow to finance critical sectors of the economy.

The former President also advocated financial discipline with the necessary political will to implement the various policies and programmes of the government aimed at taking the country out of recession.

Obasanjo also kicked against the constituency projects by members of the National Assembly, saying this must stop.

In his address, Vice President Yemi Osinbajo said that the current recession would be short-lived.

He said changes would come “once the Federal Government is able to resolve the issues concerning pipeline vandalism and focus on a sustainable diversification policy.”

Osinbajo said that the loss of about 60 per cent of the gas for power generation and 60 per cent of revenue were largely responsible for the economic challenges currently facing the country.

He dismissed predictions that the recession would last till around the year 2020 and assured Nigerians that the Federal Government would not rest until the problem was resolved.

Osinbajo expressed optimism that despite the drop in electricity generation to less than 3,000 megawatts, Nigeria could still meet the 7,000MW target by 2017.

He said work on critical transmission stations would be completed by the first quarter of next year.

He explained that the Federal Government was currently working on eight to nine transmission stations across the country to achieve the 7,000MW generation capacity.

“The President Muhammadu Buhari-led Federal Government is equally working on increasing gas supplies to enable the Federal Government increase power supply throughout the country towards improving the energy needs of the country,” the vice president stated.

He lamented the menace of vandals, which he noted had caused the drop in gas supply to the power stations, adding that the Federal Government was already working on ways of ending the activities of vandals, which constituted an act of economic sabotage.

Osinbajo said the Federal Government was already encouraging a privately-owned refinery to refine 650,000 barrels of crude oil per day to ease the problem of petroleum products’ supply across the country.

The Minister of Agriculture and Rural Development, Chief Audu Ogbeh, said on Monday that 42 foreign investors from different European countries are being expected to invest in Nigeria by February, 2017.

Ogbeh, who disclosed at a news briefing in Abuja, said that the development was the outcome of the visit of President Muhammadu Buhari and his team to Germany and Rome recently.

He said the investments were expected in agriculture, food processing, solar-power supply, ceramic tiles and building materials.

According to him, there will be a delegation of the European Union by February, 42 investors are coming for different areas of investment.

“A good number of them in agriculture, food processing, some in power supply with emphasis on solar energy for rural areas, ceramic tiles, building materials.

“We do not have the figure of how much they will invest yet,’’ he said.

The minister said that the Federal Government would, henceforth, provide official security in farms, industries of those investors to encourage foreign investments and economy diversification.

According to him, during the visit, the Federal Government delegation decided to extend cooperation amongnations to learn from their experiences so that we can increase local production.

Ogbeh said that the issue of malnutrition in Nigeria was extensively discussed at a food and agriculture meeting in Rome during the visit.

He expressed regrets that rural-urban migration was a major contributor to low milk production in cattle, hence the increase in malnutrition in children.

The minister explained that the Federal Government was working toward setting up grazing reserves to boost milk production in cattle.

“We want to learn from Brazil. Brazil has over 205 million cows which make production and processing of milk easier for them.

“In Nigeria, we have only about 15 million cows and these cows are mostly males. The females in them do not drink enough water to produce adequate quantity of milk.

“It means that we have a lot of work to do to increase the production of milk,’’ he said.

Ogbeh appealed to Nigerians to imbibe the habit of eating healthy foods to reduce malnutrition especially in children.

“We eat a lot of carbohydrate in this country. We must make changes, learn how to eat well to reduce our medical bills,’’ he advised.

Femi Fani-Kayode, a former aviation minister has slumped in the custody of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, EFCC.

He was re-arrested by the EFCC on Friday, October 21, 2016 in the premises of the federal high court in Ikoyi, Lagos. According to sources familiar with the situation, Fani-Kayode slumped in the EFCC detention centre on Saturday and was rushed to a hospital where he was placed on admission.

Read the statement below...

When Chief Femi Fani-Kayode was rearrested on Friday, 21st of October, 2016, in the premises of the Federal High Court, Ikoyi, Lagos, we raised a number of issues which included that the re-arrest was not only unnecessary but that it was also reckless.

We made known our fears that Fani-Kayode’s life was in dire danger as long as he remained in EFCC custody or in the custody of any agency of the federal government based on discreet information available to us. This is apart from the fact that his health has been badly affected since his incarceration for a whopping 67 days based on some questionable ‘detention orders’. This fact is well known to the EFCC as Fani-Kayode’s lawyers have written several letters to the Commission reminding them of the health conditions of the former minister of aviation (Kindly see attached).

It is therefore shocking that having known these facts, the EFCC still acted in a most unprofessional and crude way by re-arresting a man who has never been known to turn down their invitation even for once, who was since granted administrative bail by the same Commission after meeting the stringent conditions set by them; a man who is also supposed to be on bail as granted by the courts after fulfilling the conditions, and who even has his international passport still lodged with the Commission.

Although Chief Femi Fani-Kayode was yet to complete the recovery therapy he was undergoing after spending the initial 67 grueling days in EFCC custody wherein he was also physically attacked by one of the Commission’s agents, in deference to the law and the Commission, he painfully but willingly cut short his therapy and medical checks to attend court proceedings.

One would have thought that these were enough to convince EFCC that Fani-Kayode was very willing to face his persecutors in court. But rather than be humane in their conduct, EFCC hounded him for the umpteenth time on that fateful Friday and have since kept him in custody.

It is therefore little wonder that based on the history of his medical conditions which the Commission is very much aware of, Chief Femi Fani-Kayode slumped while in detention on Saturday, 22nd of October, 2016.

But for the quick and professional intervention of the medical team in the EFCC medical facilities, the story could have been different, it could have been fatal!

We must commend the medical staff at the Commission’s medical facility. They were prompt in their response, and very impressive in their care. It is very heartwarming to know that some professionals have not allowed the political witch hunt and persecution of political opponents and perceived enemies taint their professional calling. We hope this extends to all facets of the Nigerian society.

Nigerians would recall that we had earlier raised the alarm about the danger in which Fani-Kayode’s life is right now; we are shocked that that danger rather than ebb away is becoming a reality slowly but steadily. If not, why re-arrest and keep him in detention when he has not failed to appear before the Commission or even before the courts at any time, neither has he ever been declared wanted?

The fresh charges for which he was said to have been re-arrested were presented to him over the weekend and they border on an alleged N26m which he was accused to have collected from the erstwhile NSA, Sambo Dasuki, and he has since signed for the charges while he waits for his day in court. So, why still detain him if there is no sinister motive behind it all?

From the foregoing, it is obvious that this issue about corruption is nothing but an already exposed façade for the silencing of opposition voices, and keep Fani-Kayode out of circulation as long as practicable since he is seen by many as one of the strongest voices against tyranny, oppression and executive lawlessness.

For the avoidance of doubt, we reiterate our earlier warning that nothing untoward must happen to Chief Femi Fani-Kayode whether now or in the nearest future. Should anything happen to him, we can assure those responsible that there would be reactions of unimaginable propensity.

It is not all sacrifices that the gods accept. There are some sacrifices that even oracles reject for fear of untamable repercussions!

Nigerians are watching and waiting!

Donald Trump on Monday addressed the latest accusations of inappropriate sexual contact made against him, saying of the accuser, an adult film performer, "Oh, I'm sure she's never been grabbed before."

At a news conference Saturday, Jessica Drake accused Trump of grabbing and kissing her without permission and offering her money to go up to his hotel room alone a decade ago.
In an appearance on WGIR radio's "New Hampshire Today," Trump called the accusations against him "total fiction."

"These are stories that are made up, these are total fiction. You'll find out that, in the years to come, these women that stood up, it was all fiction," he said. "They were made up. I don't know these women, it's not my thing to do what they say. You know I don't do that. I don't grab them, as they say, on the arm."

"One said, 'he grabbed me on the arm.' And she's a porn star. You know, this one that came out recently, 'he grabbed me and he grabbed me on the arm.' Oh, I'm sure she's never been grabbed before," Trump said.

"It's all lies, it's all lies, it was made up," added Trump. "It's like dripping water."

Drake, who is being represented by attorney Gloria Allred, is one of several women who have accused Trump of unwanted sexual advances in recent weeks. Trump has denied all the allegations against him and CNN has not independently verified their claims.

In the interview, Trump called Allred "a third rate lawyer" who supported Clinton.

Lady Gaga could give you a million reasons why Donald Trump is unfit to become the president of the United States, but when reporter Charlie Stayt presented this terrifying prospect to the singer on BBC Breakfast on Friday, she had just one thing to say.

“I have nothing to say of him,” Gaga, who has pledged her support to Hillary Clinton in the past, cooly responded, wearing John Lennon-style shades for the indoor interview.

When pressed about why Trump’s rhetoric resonates with so many Americans across the country, Gaga broke down how the Republican nominee’s campaign is fueled by empty promises and fearmongering without once mentioning his name.

“I think what is most important is for us to try to decipher now what is real and what is not. And what is honest and what is dishonest and be accepting of those things and not operating from fear.”

Things took an awkward turn, however, as the interviewer continued with this line of questioning. When asked why Clinton would do a better job than Trump ― how long do you have, BBC?! ― an increasingly bored-looking Gaga responded, after a long silence:

“I think she will do a good job. Some people want to win races. Other people want to be president of the United States and change people’s lives. It’s about the intention.”

An adult film actress and director became the latest woman to accuse Donald Trump of unwanted sexual advances, saying the Republican presidential candidate offered her $10,000 to come to his hotel room alone.

Jessica Drake is one of at least 11 women to have alleged that the real estate billionaire groped them, made inappropriate remarks or forcibly kissed them.
Speaking during a Los Angeles news conference on Saturday, accompanied by the high-profile discrimination lawyer Gloria Allred, Drake said she met Trump at a golf tournament in Lake Tahoe, California in 2006.

"He flirted with me and invited me to walk along the golf course with him," she said, adding that he asked her to his hotel room. She went along with two other women, Drake said.

Wearing pajamas when they entered, Trump "grabbed each of us tightly in a hug and kissed each one of us without asking permission."

He also asked what it was like to film pornography, Drake said. After she returned to her room, Drake said, Trump called her asking her to return to his suite and invited her to a party.

"What do you want? How much?" she said Trump asked her.

After she declined, Drake said, she received another call either from Trump or another man offering $10,000 and use of Trump's private plane to fly home to Los Angeles if she were to accept. Ms Drake was unable to to recall whether the offer was made by Mr Trump himself or a member of his staff.

During news conference, Allred -- who also represents two other women who accuse Trump of unwanted sexual advances -- showed a photograph of Trump and Drake at the golf tournament.

Trump's campaign denied the Drake's allegations, describing them as "totally false and ridiculous", adding that the Hillary Clinton team was behind a dirty tricks campaign.

"This story is totally false and ridiculous," it said in a statement. "Mr Trump does not know this person, does not remember this person and would have no interest in ever knowing her. This is just another attempt by the Clinton campaign to defame a candidate who just today is number one in three different polls,"

Trump has seen his campaign spiral downward in recent weeks ahead of the November 8 election after a number of women made allegations that he sexually assaulted them -- claims he again insisted on Saturday were false.
He also threatened to take legal action against all the "liars" that have claimed to be victims of his sexual assaults.

"The events never happened. Never. All of these liars will be sued after the election is over," he said during a campaign rally.

Vice President Yemi Osinbajo on Wednesday night confirmed that he was nominated for his present position in last year’s presidential election.

Prof. John Paden claims in a book on the President, titled: “Muhammadu Buhari: Challenges of Leadership in Nigeria,” that Osinbajo emerged as vice president despite pressure against it by All Progressives Congress (APC) stalwart Asiwaju Bola Tinubu.

But many Nigerians had faulted the claim as they insisted that Osinbajo was nominated for the position by Tinubu.

Osinbajo, at a dinner organised in honour of outstanding ex-militants of Presidential Amnesty Programme at the old Banquet Hall of the Presidential Villa, Abuja, confirmed that he was actually nominated for the position.

He said:
“I was with a group of young men and women and one of them asked the question how I became vice president; I was never a politician or anything like that.
“So, I tried to explain: it is quite simple that someone somewhere has to recommend you; somebody somewhere has to give you a helping hand. Whether to be a vice president or to be an aircraft pilot or to be an engineer, somebody somewhere has to give you an opportunity. I think that all of you that are here today are the beneficiaries of the opportunities that you have somehow received.
“And this is why this event is so important. I think that it is one way we have to remind ourselves that we are bound as individuals to give opportunities to everyone.”

Angelina Jolie is setting new rules for Brad Pitt, and that includes supervised visits with the couple’s six children with a family therapist. Brad finally saw his kids for the first time after Angelina shocked the celebrity world by announcing her divorce from the Hollywood actor.

According to the Daily Mail, Brad’s visit with his children was so emotional, that both he and his children began crying. Sources say that it was a ‘gut-wrenching’ meeting as his kids no doubt realized for the first time that their family life will never be the same as the reality of Brad Pitt and Angelina Jolie’s divorce is sinking in.

One source even said, “Brad had had tears in his eyes and tried to hold it together because he didn’t want them to get upset because he was crying. The visit was gut-wrenching: Vivienne and Zahara both started crying.”

There’s no doubt that these supervised visits have taken a toll on Brad’s mental state. For years, Angelina has praised him and his parenting skills, calling him a caring, loving father who has always put his family’s needs over his own.

The only thing that has changed is Angelina’s vindictive nature, as there’s no doubt that she would completely strip the kids away from Brad if she could. After all, Angelina herself has had only an on-again, off-again relationship with her own father Jon Voigt and doesn’t realize how she would be hurting her kids if she did keep Brad away from them.

Then again, Angelina’s main concern in life is herself, her ego and her own needs. If she loved her kids the same way she claims to, she wouldn’t be hurting them by keeping them away from their father.

She was willing to destroy the father of her children with a nasty smear campaign against him in the media until it backfired against her. That’s why she’s toned down her attacks and has completely changed her tune, showing that she’s willing to cooperate and even ‘help’ Brad, although it might be the actress who needs the real help here.

Even though rumors have stated that Brad Pitt allegedly has substance and alcohol abuse problems, recent drug tests have come back with negative results, proving that Brad isn’t the junkie Angelina is making him out to be.

Just like we know the trending online scheme MMM where you invest your money by helping others who are in need of it too and after a month you get 30% return of your money.

i.e if you invest 1million, after a month you get 1.3million.
As seen today in one of the photos sent in by one of our blog readers, the President of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, Muhammadu Buhari has urged Nigerians to invest in the MMM business especially in this time of difficulties and recession. What do you think guys?

Lagos State Governor, Mr. Akinwunmi Ambode on Tuesday disclosed that the State Government would begin the disbursement of the much anticipated N25 billion Employment Trust Fund (ETF) and other empowerment programmes initiated by his administration next week.

Governor Ambode, who spoke at the 3rd Quarter 2016 Town Hall Meeting, held at the Indoor Sports Hall, Teslim Balogun Stadium, Surulere said that the funds for the programmes targeted to assist youths, artisans and the needy become self reliant have been provided, hence beneficiaries would start getting support from the last quarter of the year.
“We will roll out all our empowerment programmes immediately to assist all our youth, artisans and the needy. The funding for the N500m Lagos State Persons Living with Disability Fund has been provided and beneficiaries will start getting support from this quarter,” Governor Ambode said.
To beef up the security in the State, especially at the community level, Governor Ambode also disclosed plans to recruit at least 5,000 Neighbourhood Watchers with new recruits expected to earn at least N25, 000 monthly with other allowances.
He said the neighbourhood Safety Agency Bill which he signed into Law on August 15, 2016, was part of efforts to institutionalise and deepen community policing in the State.
“There is a law that has just been passed which is the Lagos State Neighborhood Safety Corps Law, 2016 and in line with the resolution taken by the House of Assembly yesterday, we would go all out to make sure that this agency is activated and all our neighborhoods will be covered, and then centralize with the State Government with all the necessary equipment and resources to ensure that we establish what we call community policing and that is the way to go.
“We will rebrand Neighborhood Watchers and re-equip them to the level that each Neighborhood Watchers in all the Local Governments will have their vehicles and necessary equipment to complement security. We are also working on employing additional 5,000 Neighborhood Watchers in all our Local Governments and they will be paid by us, while the basic salary for the entrance level will be N25,000 per month,” the Governor said.
Speaking on the budget performance of the 2016 budget, Governor Ambode disclosed that the State’s budget performance for January to September performed at 69 per cent as against 65 per cent for the same period in 2015.
He said a total of N166.8billion has been spent on capital projects this year, a figure, he said, was more than double the N53.6billion spent for the same period last year.
Governor Ambode said the State generated a total revenue of N97.3billion in the last quarter with an expenditure of expenditure of N110.2billion, noting that the cash reserve of the State has remained positive.
The Governor also disclosed that a total sum of N55billion was expended on capital expenditure in the last quarter.
According to him, the last quarter witnessed a lot of activities from the delivery of massive road infrastructure across the Local Governments in the State as well as the promulgation of the anti-Land Grabbing Law, aimed at making life easier for property owners and a boost in investment activities that will enhance the growth and development potentials in the State.
He expressed optimism that despite the recession, the State’s economy would remain on a strong and sound footing if capital expenditure spending is increased.
“In this quarter, we will concentrate more resources on capital projects. We will put money in the hands of our local contractors and through them stimulate and reflate the economy. Immediate payments will be made to contractors handling health sector and education sector projects within the next two weeks,” Governor Ambode assured.
Speaking on some projects outlined for the next quarter, the Governor said that plans have been concluded to transform the Yaba Bus Park with the provision of modern bus shelters replica of the ones erected at the Tafawa Balewa Square.
Governor Ambode also assured that the road rehabilitation projects ongoing at Adetola Street and Brown Road in Aguda, Surulere as well as Olajuwon and Biney Streets in Yaba would be completed before the end of the present quarter.
He said with the completion and delivery of the first phase of the 114 local government roads last month, the process of bid invitation for the construction of additional 114 roads across the 20 Local Governments and 37 Local Council Development Areas would commence within the next three weeks.
“We have commenced a multi-faceted development that will change the face of Lagos Island. We have installed new bus shelters at Tafawa Balewa Square and before the end of December, various projects will be commenced within the National Museum axis, Onikan to Tafawa Balewa Square, and from Lagos House Marina and Freedom Park. By the time we complete these projects, Lagos will become a major tourist destination in West Africa,” the Governor said.
Also speaking during the interactive session at the event witnessed by captains of industries, party chieftains and members of the diplomatic corps, Oba of Lagos, HRM Oba Rilwan Akiolu, lamented the suspension of a bill seeking special status for Lagos by the Senate, but expressed optimism that the bill would still become law in the nearest future.
He said: “The suspension of the bill sponsored by our amiable daughter and wife, Senator Oluremi Tinubu is unfortunate but it is better and advisable to let these people know that this is not a matter of quarrel but a question of time. It will definitely happen.”
The monarch, who recalled the history of the agitation for special status for Lagos, urged the promoters of the bill to go back to drawing board and do their homework well before representing it for consideration and passage.
The Governor, who also spoke on the issue, commended Senator Tinubu for her courage to push for the bill, while also lauding the Senate President, Bukola Saraki for his magnanimity in allowing the bill to be presented on the floor of the Senate.
He however expressed optimism that the bill would be reactivated and represented again, saying that the success of the bill was in the overriding interest of Nigerians.

White House candidate Donald Trump desperately needs a strong debate performance against Hillary Clinton on Sunday, with stakes sky-high amid intense scrutiny of his treatment of women, and a damaging video of him boasting that he beds married ones.

His unprecedented, outside-the-establishment presidential bid, and the embattled Republican Party with it, was thrown into disarray by the misogynistic comments, with growing calls from top Republicans for him to step aside.

Even before the latest fallout, Trump was already in need of a moment of political magic to reverse his slide in the polls barely four weeks from Election Day on November 8.

Now his campaign has been rocked by its worst crisis, with the video echoing in voters’ ears, day in and day out. National media have dug up some of his gems of bad and bizarre behavior, including agreeing with an interviewer that his daughter Ivanka was a “piece of a*s”. In a 2002 interview with Howard Stern, Trump also said he preferred leaving ladies as they age.

“What is it at 35? It’s called check-out time,” Trump quips.

At 9:00 pm (0200 GMT Monday), the real estate magnate and the former secretary of state will face off in the second presidential debate at Washington University in St Louis.

The format poses its own difficulties for Trump: half of the questions will be asked by undecided voters.

He will want to build a personal connection with these everyday Americans and show his capacity for empathy, a quality that often has been drowned out in his large, raucous campaign rallies.

Despite an angry backlash threatening to destroy his campaign, over Trump’s remarks boasting about his ability to grope women as he pleases without impunity, he insisted there is “zero chance I’ll quit”.

Late Saturday, the defiant Republican presidential nominee stepped outside of his Trump Tower skyscraper in New York, brandishing his fist to cheers from dozens of supporters.

Asked if he was staying in the race, he responded: “100 percent”.

Trump’s own wife Melania said she was offended by her husband’s “unacceptable and offensive” comments, caught on a hot mic just months after the two married in the real estate magnate’s third marriage.

But she urged American voters to support him.

“I hope people will accept his apology, as I have, and focus on the important issues facing our nation and the world,” Melania Trump said in a statement.

The videotape, released Friday by The Washington Post, forced a rare apology from a campaign already peppered by controversies over Trump’s treatment of women, roiling his Republican Party.

The Republican National Committee appeared to have halted part of its “Victory” program to elect Trump, with the RNC asking a vendor to “put a hold” on mail production, the Politico news website reported.

CNN said the RNC was considering ending a joint fundraising agreement with the Trump campaign.

Trump called the disclosure a “distraction”, defiantly attacking the Clintons for husband Bill Clinton’s past infidelities, and hinting strongly he would say more on the topic during Sunday’s debate in St Louis, Missouri.

‘Enough!’

Republican reaction to the videotape came fast and furious, with some calling on the bombastic billionaire to step aside, or allow running mate Mike Pence to take the top of the ticket, others simply withdrawing their endorsement.

Pence, the governor of Indiana, said that as a husband and father he was “offended” by Trump’s remarks.

Yet the Trump campaign released a schedule showing Trump would be back on the trail for rallies starting Monday.

House Speaker Paul Ryan, the top Republican officeholder, said he was “sickened” by Trump’s comments, and disinvited him from a political event in Wisconsin. Pence was to go in Trump’s place, but he canceled without explanation.

By Saturday, about a dozen senators, a dozen members of the House of Representatives and three governors — all Republicans — had withdrawn their support.

Among senior party figures, Condoleezza Rice — a former secretary of state and national security advisor under president George W. Bush — said “Enough! Donald Trump should not be President. He should withdraw”.

Senator John McCain, the 2008 presidential nominee with whom Trump has sparred repeatedly, said “Donald Trump’s behavior… make(s) it impossible to continue to offer even conditional support for his candidacy”.

Governor John Kasich of Ohio, a contender in the Republican primaries, said Trump’s comments were “disgusting” and that “our country deserves better”.

Illinois Senator Mark Kirk called for an “emergency replacement”.

Actor-director Robert de Niro weighed in, saying “I’d like to punch him in the face”.

But top Trump surrogate Rudy Giuliani, a former New York mayor, insisted that “there is nothing that would cause his dropping out.”

“That is wishful thinking of the Clinton campaign and those people who have opposed him for a long time. He is in the race to win,” Giuliani added.

Campaign in crisis

With the November 8 elections one month away and Clinton leading in the polls by nearly five percentage points nationally, the latest uproar has plunged Trump in the deepest crisis of his turbulent campaign.

He had already been seriously hurt by a sloppy performance in his first debate with Clinton on September 26, a damaging Twitter war against a former Miss Universe and reports he may have paid no income taxes for 18 years.

Clinton, who is seeking to become the nation’s first female commander-in-chief, is almost certain to call out Trump about the videotape during the debate.

“This is horrific,” she said on Twitter. “We cannot allow this man to become president”.

In the video, Trump uses vulgar and predatory language as he describes hitting on a married woman and grabbing women’s crotches.

The leadership of Nigeria Labour Congress, NLC, yesterday led workers to shut down operations at a Lebanese Firm in Abuja, Artco Industries Limited for alleged anti-labour activities and violations of labour law in the country.

The National President of NLC, Comrade Ayuba Wabba, said that the NLC decided to picket the Lebanese company because the management refused to recall sacked 128 workers of the company despite a judgment of the Industrial Arbitration Panel and the intervention by the Minister of Labour and Employment, Dr. Chris Ngige, on the matter.

Vanguard reports that, the management of the Lebanese firm was said to have sacked Chairman of the Civil Engineering, Construction, Furniture and wood workers, Mr. Alokwe Anisectus, and127 others for allegedly participating in the protests against fuel pump price and electricity tariff increase.

Condemning the action of the company’s management, Comrade Wabba said NLC would continue to occupy the premises of the company until the workers were recalled, adding that the NLC would not allow any company to enslave workers in violation of decent work environment and Labour laws.

Not just a few wonder aloud how popular comedian, Ayo Makun, aka AY, has been able to hit the pinnacle even faster than the comedians who had been there before him. For a first time movie maker, his ‘30 Days in Atlanta’ broke records as the highest grossing film in Africa and then, his shows are usually well-attended.

As such, so many people believe that AY might have achieved this success through diabolical means.

The comedian, in a recent chat with Saturday Beats during the launch of his latest movie, ‘A Trip to Jamaica,’ also admitted that he had heard that so many people believe that he is into ‘juju’.

“I am just a product of God’s grace. When I shot ‘30 days in Atlanta,’ I just set out to go there and have fun but a lot of people are attributing it to something else. They are saying maybe I did juju. I’ve heard all sorts and I’m beginning to suspect myself in the sense that anything I do always comes out well. My stand-up comedy show is one of the biggest in the country. Same with my TV show. I’m just a product of grace. That is what I tell people. Not because I am the best, not because I know how to do it better. I just have this shining light and I keep praying that the grace remains. For now, let me enjoy my grace.”

He added that it was his wife’s idea to begin shooting movies since he studied Directing in the university. The comedian said that while growing up, he always went to the library to read the Guinness Book of World Records but he never dreamt that his name would be in one of its editions.

“Before the Guinness World Record came, we were done with ‘A Trip to Jamaica.’ Let me take you back to ‘30 days in Atlanta.’ This was me just setting out to go and have fun. I’m known as a stand-up comedian with my programme, AY Live. One day, I had a discussion with my wife about diversification and doing something different. Since I do a lot of skits that made my YouTube channel the most viewed in the country for three years consecutively, she suggested I put them together to make a full movie.

That was what gave birth to ‘30 Days in Atlanta.’ And because I was new in the business, the idea was just to put some budget together and go and shoot a film. I didn’t know it was going to make a difference. And right now, I am basking in that euphoria. I enjoy and appreciate the fact that ‘30 Days in Atlanta’ made it to the Guinness Book of Records. I feel very happy. I didn’t see it coming, not even for a second.

I mean, I always tell people, I used to go to the library back in the days to just grab that book and read. I had this impression that the people they featured probably had four heads. I never knew a day would come when I would see myself in the book. Maybe, somebody is reading it now and thinks AY has four heads too,” he said.

Kim Kardashian could lose at least $1 million a month retreat from the public eye and social media, according to a celebrity financial adviser.

Speaking to People magazine, celebrity financial adviser Samuel Rad explained that every single social media post was worth around $20,000 to Kim's brand - and that's before the cost of sponsored posts.

But, he explained, if handled correctly, Kim could have a big pay date in the not so distant future. He said

"[Kim's] overall brand is generating at least $1 million a month just through general posts, not including anything that's specifically being contracted with companies," 'I think what’s going to happen is the first post she’s going to put up... it’s going to get so many more followers and hits.

I think that it might actually end up helping her. Especially if Kim positions [her return to social media] correctly … I think it could be a really big moneymaker for her brand.”

The Presidency has denied claims by some youths in Bayelsa state that it has frozen the accounts of former President Goodluck Jonathan and stopped his allowances as a former President.

During a protest in the state yesterday, Youths in Bayelsa accused the present administration of victimizing the former president and his family using the EFCC and other related agencies.

This claim has now been debunked by Shehu Garba. Read the statement below...

The allegation by demonstrators in Bayelsa State on Thursday that allowances due to a former President have been stopped and his bank accounts were frozen is patently untrue.

We have confirmed with the Secretary to the Government of the Federation (SGF) that the former President and the other past leaders were paid their allowances up to the second quarter.

The past leaders have not been paid third quarter allowances but will get their dues when remittances are received by the SGF from the Ministry of Finance.

Also, the story of account closure is false. It is not known to the investigation agencies. The National Security Adviser to the President is not aware of this bank account closure; the DG SSS is unaware of it, the EFCC is unaware and the IG of Police is not in the know.

With all of these agencies not being involved, how then could a thing like that happen? In a dream perhaps! To put it starkly, we believe there is a clear motive for the demonstration that is different from that which was being canvassed.

This is a premeditated attempt to blame President Muhammadu Buhari for something he knows nothing about. These claims are false and poorly sourced to present a picture of vendetta; and they should be disregarded by well-meaning members of the public.

President Buhari remains committed to the ideals of justice and fairness to all irrespective of creed, religion and political leanings. His administration will not engage in vendetta
