Early this year, I bled nonstop for close to 3 months, I went for scan, I was told it was fibroid, that the best thing for me to do is to remove the womb, since it was giving me so much pains and I was on heavy dose of iron tablets. What are fibroids then?
Fibroids are muscular benign (not cancerous) tumors that grow in the wall of the uterus (womb). Another medical term for fibroids is "leiomyoma" or "myoma". Fibroids can grow as a single tumor, or many in the uterus. They can be as small as an apple seed or as big as a grapefruit. they tend to grow bigger in size during pregnancy.

During a woman's reproductive years her estrogen and progesterone levels are high. When estrogen levels are high, especially during pregnancy, fibroids tend to swell. When estrogen levels are low fibroids may shrink.
